How does the Social Story Creator work?
You answer a short questionnaire about the child, the situation and the goal. StoryLeap drafts a social story from your answers, and you review and edit every page before you save or print it.
What is a social story?
A social story is a short, personalized story that describes a specific situation, skill or concept, such as the first day at kindergarten or a visit to the dentist, in a clear and reassuring way. Carol Gray developed Social Stories™ in 1990. Our social stories guide explains when to use one and how to write it.
Are social stories evidence-based?
Social narratives, the broader group of interventions that includes social stories, meet the evidence-based practice criteria in the 2020 review by the US National Clearinghouse on Autism Evidence and Practice (NCAEP), for learners aged 3 to 18. Results differ from child to child, and the professional decides whether a story is the right tool.
Can StoryLeap support autistic children?
Yes. Professionals often use social stories and visual activities with autistic children, and Carol Gray first developed Social Stories™ for autistic students. StoryLeap is not built for one diagnosis, and it does not diagnose or treat autism. The professional decides whether a tool fits a particular child and adapts it to that child’s needs.
Can I share materials with a child’s family?
Yes. You can share selected resources with the family using a personal code. Parents see only what you chose to share, not your private notes, goals or other children.
Which languages does StoryLeap support?
StoryLeap is available in Hebrew, English, Arabic and Spanish, and social stories can be created in any of these languages. Some activities are currently available in Hebrew and English only.
Do I need an account to use the activities?
No. The activities on the Activities page open in the browser without signing up. To create personalized materials and save them for each child, you sign in to your workspace.
Does StoryLeap replace professional judgment?
No. StoryLeap is a tool for preparing materials. It does not diagnose or provide treatment. The professional decides what fits each child and reviews every material before using it.
How is children’s information protected?
Child profiles and materials are kept in a private workspace that requires signing in, and are not visible to other users. Families see only what is explicitly shared with them.
